How To Correctly Use Battling Ropes To Supplement Your Workout

July 2, 2015

Battling ropes have recently emerged in the fitness world and have become increasingly popular ever since. The heavy weight of these ropes as your body propels them in different directions is a great strength-building workout with the added benefit of being incredibly easy on the joints. Take a look at these few techniques to make sure you are correctly and efficiently using battling ropes to get the most out of your workout:

Move in Different Directions

When using battling ropes, it is often easy to get stuck doing the same repetitive motion. Avoid getting caught in an exercise rut by switching up your motions every now and again.

For instance, lifting the battling ropes up and down in a wave a motion is a great workout for your arms, but, you must add complexity to your workout by incorporating the “crossover” technique. To complete the crossover technique, hold both battling ropes in each hand and place your hands together. Lift the rope up above your right shoulder, then down to your left foot then repeat for the left side.

Easily Increase the Intensity of Your Workout

When battling ropes, most people do not realize how easy it is to increase or decrease the intensity of the workout. Unlike weight systems, where you have to physically change the workload, battling ropes requires you only to move your body closer to, or farther away from the leverage point. To increase the intensity, simply move farther from the leverage point of the ropes.

Incorporate Battling Ropes into Your Regular Fitness Routine

Battling ropes makes a great solo workout, a warm-up, or an alternative exercise within your normal fitness routine. They are especially useful in exercise circuits as they allow you to get a cardio and strength workout all in one go.
